This webpage is dedicated to the pursuit of the holy grail of men’s fitness: six pack abs. But really it is about more than that. It’s about setting goals and achieving them. If you can prove to yourself that you have the mental and physical tenacity to achieve something as difficult as a really great set of abs, you realize that there really isn’t anything that you can’t do.
I’ve noticed that any goal requires three steps (and getting a six pack is just like any other goal):
If you’ve decided that you want a six pack then you’ve already completed step one. Now that you’re here, you’re in the right place for steps 2 and 3. This site lays out what it takes to get great abs. There’s a lot of misinformation out there about what it takes to get great abs. Some people suggest doing hundreds of crunches. Others set unrealistic expectations about the level of work it will take. In truth, getting a six pack will take a significant effort. This work can be broken down as three separate categories:
If you follow the information laid out here, with enough work you will get a six pack. But I find that most people come up short on the third step, following through to achieve their goal. For this reason I hope that this site will be able to serve as a community of positive reinforcement. I hope you will send in your questions, your failures, and especially your successes so we can use them as inspiration. I plan to answer all your questions, to provide encouragement or a pat on the back for success, and hopefully through comments you’ll do the same for the other readers as well. That way we can all hold ourselves to finishing step three and achieving our goal of six pack abs. It won’t be easy, but nothing worth accomplishing is. And once you attain the goal of six pack abs, you will understand that any goal can be achieved in the same way.
I’m a scientific researcher by training (chemical physics to be specific), but one of my passions and my main hobby is physical fitness. I’ve been very serious about weight training for about 7 years, but for the first 4 (and the first 27 years of my life) I didn’t have a six pack. I decided that I worked out too much to not have a six pack so I scoured the internet to find out would it would take. In a few months I had reached my six pack goal, not just some lines on my stomach but a tight cut six pack (and yes the picture on the homepage is of me). I’ve concentrated that information here so you won’t have to search for information the way I did.
One thing that I learned in graduate school is that determination is more important than skill. Success was more dependent on how hard a student was willing to work than how mentally gifted that student was. That lesson applies to this website. You may think that your genetic destiny is to have a pudgy stomach, but if you are willing to put in the work and follow the guidelines that are laid out here, I strongly believe you will reach your six-pack goal.
